Center for Children with Intellectual Disabilities
"No child should be left behind"
About Us
In Nepal, disabilities are commonly seen as a punishment from the gods. Disabled individuals are commonly ignored, neglected, and forced to live in dark rooms. Their family members feel shame at having lost prestige in the community because of them.
CCID , Center for Children with Intellectual Disabilities, was started in 2004. Located in the heart of Kathmandu, Nepal, we aim to provide a life of dignity & comfort for intellectually handicapped children by providing them with education, support, life skills, vocational training, physiotherapy & proper care so that they receive equal opportunity & rehabilitate in the community.
Fast forward 15 years, and we now have approximately 30 children enrolled, ranging from 5 to 30 years old. They have different learning and communication disabilities, such as Down syndrome, Autism and Cerebral Palsy. Our manager, Meena, has devoted her life to these beautiful children. She is assisted by two other teachers and one caretaker with the addition of volunteers who come occasionally. We work together to provide a warm and nurturing environment for the children. Above all, we seek to be a source of hope for the children; hope that one day, they will be a part of the community and will be able to lead normal lives.
However, more can be done. The center requires funds to pay its monthly rent, to provide lunch for the children and to enable access to more children. If you would like to volunteer, donate money or simply find out more, please feel free to contact us.
